Chef Doug Sanham has worked in kitchens all over the south-east during his career as a chef, and received an Acorn Award from The Caterer whilst head chef of The Beacon in Tunbridge Wells. For much of his time in kitchens he struggled with a dissociative disorder that sometimes led him to have blackouts and to attempting suicide.
In 2016 he joined forces with fellow chef Andrew Clarke to start Pilot Light – a campaign to raise awareness of mental health issues in hospitality. Today he and Andrew hold talks, workshops and events to shine a light on mental health in the workplace, as well as working with restaurants and hospitality groups to help them better support the mental health of their employees.
