Our fourth dinner celebrating Spanish food and Estrella Galicia's wonderful beers took place at Kaltur in Newcastle – take a look at what was on the menu.
Our series of dinners in partnership with Estrella Galicia have seen us visit London, Cardiff and Liverpool – our fourth one took us to the north of England and the beautiful city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The restaurant hosting us this time was Kaltur in Dean Street, a Spanish food and drink importer with two celebrated places to eat in the city. The sold-out dinner took place on Wednesday 6 November.
The exclusive, one-off dinner saw Kaltur's head chefs Xavi and Victor create a bespoke tasting menu that was perfectly matched with Estrella Galicia's range of premium beers. More and more of us are understanding that beer can be just as good (if not better) than wine when it comes to food pairing, and the delicious dishes on offer proved just that. Take a look at the menu below to get a taste of what was on the menu:
Empanada Gallega – a Galician pie filled with tuna and roasted red pepper, paired with Estrella Galicia 0.0%
Lacon – Galician-style dried ham with boiled potatoes, paired with Estrella Galicia 4.7%
Galician octopus – tender pieces of octopus cooked with mashed potatoes, smoked paprika and extra virgin olive oil, paired with Estrella Galicia 4.7%
Entrecôte steak – old Galician beef cut into tender and thin rib-eye steaks, paired with 1906 Reserva Especial
Tarta de Santiago – a traditional almond cake with almond ice cream, vanilla sauce and cocoa tuile, paired with 1906 Black Coupage
