This sour cherry old fashioned elevates the classic cocktail, combining the sweet notes of maple syrup with the deep richness of tart cherry juice, whiskey and lime. Served with aromatic citrus and thyme ice and garnished with plump sour cherries, this twist on the classic is the perfect balance between boldness and subtlety.
To make the herb and citrus ice, slice up the lime and orange into thin wedges. Fill an ice cube tray halfway with water, then carefully insert the citrus slices along with the thyme sprigs. Fill with water then place the tray in the freezer and leave overnight
To a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice, add the whiskey, lime juice, tart cherry juice, maple syrup and bitters
Shake well then strain into a cocktail glass containing the herb and citrus ice cubes. Garnish with the sour cherries then serve
