Kricket is one of a handful of restaurants in London that showcase the many regional cuisines of India in a modern, approachable menu that goes far beyond the average curry house but doesn’t require the splurge of high-end, Michelin-level establishments. What sets it apart is chef Will Bowlby’s ability to combine the flavours, techniques and ingredients he came across during his time cooking in India with the best-in-class seasonal produce of Britain.
The lively, bustling atmosphere makes it perfect for groups, and there are plenty of stools around the open kitchen for those who like to watch the chefs in action. The menu itself is comprised of a selection of small plates, perfect for sharing or building your own little tasting menu. Divided into breads, veg, fish, meat, sides and puddings, you can go as little or as large as you like. Dishes change regularly with the seasons, and a glance at the menu will let you know exactly what Kricket is all about – regional Indian flavours mixed with British ingredients. Samphire pakoras, Keralan fried chicken, chai brûlée and butternut squash in makhani sauce being some of the standout examples.
The wine list offers a good selection of interesting bottles, as well as beers from both Indian and London. There’s a small selection of house cocktails, featuring Indian spices, plus non-alcoholic options that go beyond the normal. During lockdown, Kricket ventured into the world of delivery, and now some of their favourite dishes can be ordered straight to your door.
